William Cameron Obituary

William E. (Bill) Cameron age 91 of Shapleigh died peacefully on January 18th at Gosnell House in Scarborough, after a period of failing health. 

He was born in Wells, March 5, 1930 son of Edgar and Dorothy (Gilpatric) Cameron and a 1947 graduate of Wells High School. Bill served in the US Army from 1951-1953.  He was employed by Hussey Seating Company in North Berwick for 38 years, with 30 years as Maintenance Supervisor. After retiring, he worked part time for several years at Ace Hardware in Kennebunk.

In their retirement, Bill and his wife Barbara split their time between their homes in Florida and Maine, moving back to Maine full time in 2018.  Bill enjoyed reading, watching NASCAR racing, but especially loved family gatherings at their home on Square Pond.   

Bill was proud to be a member of Ocean Lodge AF&AM #142, Wells, ME (Past Master), Murray Chapter #33, Kennebunk, ME, Maine Council #7 R&SM, Saco, ME, St. Amand Commandery #20, Kennebunk, ME, 32nd Scottish Rite Valley of Portland, Portland, ME, Kora Temple Shrine AAONMS, Lewiston, ME, Madonna Chapter #144 OES, West Kennebunk, ME, Gulf Beach Lodge #291, Madeira Beach, FL, Gulf Beach Chapter #241 OES, Madeira Beach, FL, American Legion Post #87, North Berwick, ME and First Congregational Church, North Berwick ME & Acton ME.  Bill was a 50+ year member of the Masons and Eastern Star.

Predeceased by his parents, wife Margery, stepson David Sheein, sister Betty Richards.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Barbara A. Cameron of Shapleigh, Maine, and his sister Eva Weston of Bloomsburg PA; six children, daughter Sheila Banks and husband Wayne of Waterboro, son William (Billy) Cameron, Jr and partner Pam Rose-Nelson of Sanford, son Wayne Cameron of Sanford, stepdaughter Karen Croft and husband Ken of Kissimmee FL, stepdaughter Lori Mathews and husband Wayne of Kennebunk, stepson Brian Blake of North Berwick; seven grandchildren, David Cameron and fiancé Jennifer Nichols of Biddeford, Kristy Cameron of Sumter SC, Elizabeth Croft and partner Katie Hecker of Arvada CO, Brien Croft and partner Anna Beth Gawarecki of Madison WI, Jacob Mathews and wife Kelsey of Jamaica Plain MA, Marissa Blake of North Berwick, Kristen Blake of Biddeford; six great grandchildren:  Kayla, Nathan, Cole, Courtney, Curtis, Ruth; one great-great grandchild:  Mia as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at the Acton Congregational Church, 59 H Road, Acton, Maine 04001 with Military Honors.

Interment will be in the VA Cemetery in Springvale, Maine.  The family is planning to have a memorial service and celebration of Bill’s life in the spring.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick, ME.  Condolences may be expressed at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
