William S. Brackett, Jr., 81, longtime resident of Wells passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021, surrounded by his family at York Hospital after a brief illness.
Born on July 3, 1940, in Lewiston, ME Bill was the eldest son of William S. and Mary R. (Danahy) Brackett, Sr. He served four years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, stationed at Hickam Air Force base in O’ahu, HI, where he was a part of the 1502nd flight line maintenance squadron and took pride in working on C-124’s.
Bill was a hardworking, dedicated man his whole life and spent 34 years in the aggregate industry. He started out as a truck driver with P.R. Boston in 1966 and worked his way up to plant & crusher superintendent with Pike Industries, retiring in 2000. Like his father, Bill was a natural-born problem solver and, his ingenuity was second to none. Bill appreciated wildlife conservation and was an active member of the National Audubon Society. He also enjoyed restoring several makes and models of antique cars and listening to bluegrass music. Bill was a generous man who lived a simple life and could often be found helping out a friend in need.
Bill will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his son Joshua Brackett (Cindy) of Wells, daughters Jennifer Brown (Kenney) of York and Jessica Hobbs (Tom) of Litchfield, NH. His five grandchildren Sandra and Joseph Brackett, Molly Brown and Nate and Kaley Hobbs. Also survived by siblings Rosalie Cunningham, Steve Brackett, Christine Carbon, Gerald (Jack) Brackett, Brian Brackett and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, siblings Donna Johnson, J. Donald Brackett, Philip Brackett, Michael Brackett and his first wife Sandra J. (Carson) Brackett.
At Bill’s request there will be no formal services. Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life at Bill’s home on Saturday July 31, 2021, from 11-3 pm.
