Acton, Maine - May 4, 2024
It is with great sadness that the family of Scott Mayo announces his passing after a 2 year battle with cancer, on late evening Saturday May 4th, 2024 at the age of 67. He passed away peacefully in his home, his sactuary, surrounded by his loving family.
Scott was born on February 18, 1957 in York, Maine, to James Mayo and Betty (Moody) Mayo. Scott was known for his woodworking, musical spirit, and life-long relationships.
Scott grew up in Ogunquit and attended three years of Wells High School. He graduated from Massabesic High School after moving to Shapleigh his senior year. Scott’s teenage years were spent working construction with his father and he continued his education in carpentry at Northeastern Maine Vocational Institute in Presque Isle. He dedicated his life to perfecting his craft. From basic carpentry, to cabinet making, to crafting beautiful furniture, his work will be appreciated for many years to come. His greatest accomplishment, though, may be the impact he left on many with his kind and beautiful heart, passion, and wit.
Scott is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Deborah (Hammond) Mayo, sons Nicholas Yeary (Crystal), of Port Orange, FL, Jeffrey Mayo (Sasha), of Sanford, and Nathan Mayo (Jennifer) of Wells, sister Susan Nason (John), of Shapleigh; 7 grandchildren, Haley, Aubrey, Nicholas (Nicholas); Harper (Jeffrey); Carter, Mya, Emily (Nathan); in-laws Judy and David Abbott, Brian and Sue Hammond, and Tom Hammond; 9 nieces and nephews. Scott is predeceased by his father and mother, James and Betty, and his brother Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Hospice of Southern Maine. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.
