Ruth M. Rand, 98, formerly of Lebanon, ME, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2020 at the Newton Center in Sanford, ME where she was surrounded by family until escorted into the presence of her Lord and Savior.
Ruth was born on June 27, 1921 in Milton, NH, the daughter of Moulton and Erma (Hemmingway) Jones, and graduated fromSanford High School in 1938.
On May 18, 1946, Ruth married Myron K. Rand, the love of her life for over 70 years. That same year, they built their home in Lebanon where they raised their two daughters, Geraldine and Roberta. Ruth worked part-time as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service in Lebanon beginning in April 1957 and held various positions through August 1980 when she retired as post mistress. After retirement Ruth and Myron enjoyed traveling cross country in their RV with family during the summers and snowmobiling during the winters. She enjoyed crafting, and in particular knitting and crocheting gifts for her family and friends. Her grandchildren recall loving memories of sleepovers, bowling, visits to the family cottage, Thanksgiving dinners complete with homemade pies and biscuits, the kids table, and family board games. Gram was “always welcoming with kind eyes, quiet strength and a genuine smile.”
Ruth was predeceased by her husband Myron (Mike) Rand in July 2017, and her brother Moulton Jones, Jr. Surviving are her two daughters: Geraldine Binette and her husband James of Acton, ME; and Roberta Benedict and her husband Roy of Gilmanton, NH.
Ruth has five grandchildren: Christine Walsh and husband John; James Binette and wife Diane; Deborah Delaney and husband Brian; Scott Benedict and wife Rebecca; and Sandra Olson and husband Terry; seven great grandchildren, Codey Balkcom and wife Bianca; Shane Balkcom and wife Heidi; Katie Binette and fiancé Dan Fernandez; Taylor Benedict and fiancé Devon Hamel; Brandon Benedict and fiancé Samantha Dio; and Devin and Ethan Holitzner; six great, great grandchildren, Braleigh, Emmaleigh and Ian Balkcom; Hazel Hamel; and Karleigh and Joseph Benedict.
