Robert Orrin Johnson 80, of West Newfield, Maine, passed away at the Pinnacle Nursing Home on June 10, 2025. He was predeceased by his Mother Charlotte Johnson and father George Johnson. Two siblings Edith of Porter, Maine and Arvid of Florida. He is survived by nieces and nephews and their children.
He was born on September 2, 1944, in Newton, Ma. He attended schools there followed by UMASS Amherst. While at college he was a member of the ROTC and the UMASS Fire Department. He graduated and joined the army. His service was to sweep venues for bombs prior to government officials using them. During his father’s illness he resigned his captains commission to go home and help his father run the insurance business.
After his father's passing Bob spent time traveling the USA in his camper truck. His favorite place was his cabin and property in West Newfield where he finally settled down. He joined the Newfield volunteer Fire Department. And was in on the ground floor of the Newfield Rescue Squad. He was the maintenance officer for many years as well as a responding member of both agencies. While doing his volunteer work he was a dispatcher for York County Communications. For recreation Bob loved to go deep sea fishing on the FV Bunny Clark out of Perkins Cove, Ogunquit. When he retired from dispatching, he became a Bail Commissioner, and he also got into volunteer work again by driving for York County Community Action for 17 years. His pride and joy, though all predeceased him, were his dogs of which there were many.
