Richard Roy Belmain, passed on February 20, 2026 surrounded by his family with his wife Jan holding his hand.
Dick was born August 22, 1942. He grew up in North Berwick, graduated from North Berwick High School, class of 1961 where he met the only love of his life Janet Cole. They married in 1963.
Dick was the epitome of a family man, he was a Good Man. He worked hard and took care of his family. He was a well-respected supervisor for Hussey Manufacturing and Seating for 33 years. He was very proud that he contributed to the manufacturing of the company’s new stadium seating line that is shipped world wide.
When he wasn’t working at Hussey, he was in constant motion, working on his home, fixing and building anything he could get his hands on. He was very proud of the family home on Oak Woods Road. He purchased it unfinished and worked side by side with his father Errol completing the beautiful woodwork.
Dick loved to travel. He and Jan were fortunate enough to see most of the Caribbean Islands. They traveled to the west to explore the beauty of Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore and Native American sites, making new friends on the many bus trips. Their favorite trips were to visit their son Steve’s family in the United Kingdom taking road trips through Germany, Scotland and England. His most memorable and recent trip was to London for his grandson Alaric’s wedding.
Dick was lucky that he was able to retire at a very young age. He spent his time proudly being the “house husband”. He once said his most important job was as baby sitter and child minder of his 3 grandsons. Every summer the “Brits” would come for their summer visits, making, many trips to Fun Town and hiking Bauneg Beg Hill. He taught them all to drive on the same back roads that he once rode on with this father Errol delivering meat door to door as a child.
Dick leaves the love of his life Janet, his daughter Christine and her husband Mike Dudley, their son Ian and his fiancé Cassidy Drew, his son Steve and his wife Almut Belmain, their sons Roderic and Alaric and his wife Tania.
He was predeceased by his father Errol, mother Catherine and his sister Kathy.
A time of visitation will be held Thursday, February 26th from 2-4 pm at Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick. A Family Celebration of Life will be held this summer. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
