Rebecca Lynn Merrifield, 56, passed away tragically on April 17, 2021 in Fairfield, ME. The second of four children born in Sanford to Jeanne Brosseau and the late Calvin Merrifield.
Becky was the most caring, thoughtful and fun person, always celebrating every moment and friendship with the most memorable laugh. Becky’s childhood was spent in Sanford working in the family business and summering on Square Pond. After graduating from Sanford High School in 1982, Becky headed off to University of Maine at Orono where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Economics. She enjoyed her early career in banking and at Coca-Cola before heading off to Europe for a year of travel and work, her love of adventure ever present.
Upon returning, Becky met her life partner, Glenn Clausen. They enjoyed a life well lived off the grid in Belgrade and Fairfield; building their business reforesting land in the southern states and returning in the summer months to her beloved Maine. During that time, she worked at LL Bean and Johnny’s Seeds. A lover of animals, Becky rescued and loved Petey, Scrappy, Trouble and Winnie. Otto and Izzi are resting with her now.
Becky was pre-deceased by her beloved father, Calvin; aunts Elaine Martin and Pauline Levesque and mother-in-law- June Held. She is survived by her mother Jeanne, brother Matthew Merrifield; sisters, Elizabeth Merrifield and Sarah Merrifield Gilbert and husband Steve; nephew Stephen Gilbert, Jr and her husband Glenn Clausen; father-in-law Al Held; sister-in-law Rachel and Gerry Bernier; brothers-in-law Mike Allard, Joe and Susan Held; Aunt Marsha Caron and Uncle John Merrifield. Also her dear friends, Peter Thomas, Hunter Grossman, Josh Sonner, Elizabeth Sylvester and their families.
