It is with great sadness that the passing of Patricia Lois (Pat) Ames is announced. Pat passed away on Saturday, December 11th from complications related to Peripheral Vascular Disease. She was 88 years old.
Pat was born, the 2nd of four children to Mr. And Mrs. Charles R. Ames on December 17, 1932at the Women’s Lying In Hospital in Boston, Mass. She spent her childhood in the Boston area. After graduating in 1950 from Watertown Sr. High School, she attended Northeastern University and graduated with Honors. Pat was one of the first women to graduate with a major in Computer Systems. After graduating Pat worked as a systems analyst for Raytheon Weapons Systems and later as an independent contractor to the U.S. Navy. It was while she was contracted with the Navy that Pat relocated to Southern Maine which became her home for the rest of her life. Upon her retirement in 2000, Pat purchased a Farm in North Berwick and it became her life’s work to restore the 17- room farmhouse. Pat was a very popular figure around Kittery and Portsmouth, N.H. with many wonderful and devoted friends. She had a great sense of humor, an incredible work ethic, and was deeply humble.
She will be lovingly remembered for her loyalty to friends and family, and for her generosity. Pat was predeceased by her Mother Maude Ames, father Charles Ames, an older sister Barbara who died in infancy, and her niece Nancy Ann Fanara Berrian. She is survived by a younger sister Nancy Fanara and her husband Charles of Westfield, Mass, and by a younger brother, Richard Ames and his wife, Judith of Austin, Texas, 6 nieces and nephews, and 11 great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to thank many of Pat’s wonderful friends who gave generously of their time to help especially as Pat became increasingly disabled and unable to complete many of her daily routines without assistance. We especially wish to thank Pat’s dear friend Nancy Hilton of Eliot who gave so lovingly of herself to help care for Pat and to serve as the principal source of communication with her family.
One of Pat’s favorite hobbies was birding, and she has respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (https://give.birds.cornell.edu/page/87895/donate). In honor of Pat’s wishes there will be no formal services scheduled
