Mariette A. (Emard) Bertrand

RD, MAINE – Mariette A. Bertrand, known affectionately as “Big Mud,” or Meme’ to close family and friends passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023, at the age of 85 in Sanford, Maine. She was born on October 20, 1938, in Sanford, Maine, to Conrad and Delina Emard.

Mariette was a loving mother, grandmother, and wife. She was a retired nursing home housekeeper, and dedicated homemaker. She found joy in cooking, cleaning, and engaging in long phone conversations. She also enjoyed playing card games which brought laughter and cherished memories to her family and friends.

Mariette is survived by her beloved husband William Bertrand, and their children, Richard Smith, Wallace Smith, Marcia Garneau, and Mariette Gibson. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Smith, parents Conrad and Delina Emard, Brothers Roger and Conrad Jr. Emard, and sisters Aline Chalk and Corinne Troiano. Mariette will be dearly missed by her grandchildren of the Garneau, Mann, Harpole, and Smith family along with their children.

The funeral services will be private, with no public ceremonies planned at this time.
