Margaret (Peggy) Ann Simonds, 82, of Greer, SC, and for the last two years, of Sanford, ME, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home after a period of declining health. She was born on January 4, 1944 in Dover, NH to Carl Downs and Nettie Nichelson.
She worked for many years as an Activities Assistant at the Greenwood Nursing Home, first when it operated in Lebanon, ME then later in Sanford, ME (now Pinnacle).
Her favorite past times were listening to live blue grass music, knitting, puzzles, shopping, and spending time with family. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 6 in Portsmouth, NH for many years, along with being a past Sergeant-at-Arms.
Peggy is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Tom) Wellwood of Sanford, ME, and her son Lucas Morin of South Berwick, ME; siblings Shelia (Carl) Randolph of Greer, SC, Kathy Barry of Greenville, SC, and Arthur (Nancy) Splaine of Rye, NH. Along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Peggy was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband Lyn; her children Scott, Patricia, Kimberly, Annette, and Kelly who tragically died in 1968; then several years later, Robbin, Michael, Jay, and Mary.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Maine for their care and compassion for Peggy during her end-of-life transition.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 29 at 11am at the Hillside cemetery in North Berwick, ME.
