Louise F. (Dixon) Ford

Louise Ford (Dixon) died peacefully at home on October 16, 2024, in North Berwick, Maine at the age of 93.

Louise is survived by her children and their spouses, Doug and Laurette Ford of Sanford, Maine and Sandy and Ray Anderson of Rehoboth, Mass.; her brother, George Dixon  of Vero Beach, FL She is also survived by 5 grandchildren and their families: Derek Ford of  Gilmanton, NH, Danny Labbe  of Sanford Maine, Chris Ford of Amesbury, MA, David Labbe of Salem, MA and Jennifer Bardsley of Rehoboth, MA. She is survived as well by several great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dana Ford of South Berwick, Maine and her brother-in-law Kenneth Ford of Hartford, Conn. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Dot Goerner of Newfield, NH Arther Dixon of Cape Nedrick, Maine, Myrtle Legendre of Nashua, NH, Bessie Niamey of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Patience Dixon of North Berwick, Maime

Louise was born on November 7, 1930, in York, Maine, to Goodale and Hazel Dixon. She was raised in Ogunquit Maine and graduated from Wells High School in 1948. After she married Dana Ford, in 1950, they moved to Presque Isle, Maine. Their 2 children were born in Presque Isle and the family eventually moved to South Berwick, Maine in the early 1960’s. Louise became a member of the First Parish Federated church in 1968. She sang in the church choir and often worked in the Yankee Thrift Shop.  She also sang in the South Berwick Community Chorus. She worked as a Lab Technician at Davidson Rubber/Textron for 29 years before retiring. In 2004, she moved to Berwick, Maine.  In 2009, she moved to North Berwick Maine, where she was one of the first residents at the Old Woolen Mill.

Louise was an avid quilter, beginning quilting in the early 1980’s and made many award winning quilts.  She made numerous quilts that were donated to charity organizations. She was a founding member of the Cocheco Quilt Guild in Dover, NH. She was the chairperson of their Annual Quilt Show for several years.  In the 40 years that the Quilt Show has been held, she always entered one or more quilts. She won many ribbons including Best of Show, Judge’s Choice, and Viewers’ Choice. Over the years, she was a member of many small quilting groups from the Knotty Needlers to the Civil War Quilting Bee.

She loved to travel and was always ready for a new adventure. She traveled extensively with her sisters Dot and Patience.  They took a cross-country train tour of Canada; they drove to South Dakota to visit Mount Rushmore, and they took several cruises throughout the Caribbean. She took 2 Cruises on the Stephen Taber, a windjammer out of Camden Maine. She traveled with friends and family to Washington, DC, Disneyland, Montreal, Canada; and many trips to Amish Country in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana, mainly to look for more quilt fabric!

Louise was passionate about learning and keeping busy. She hated sitting around doing nothing and was always doing something.  She always had a quilt in progress.  She loved bird watching.  And she was an amateur photographer, she loved taking photos of her travels and her family and she would spend hours organizing and editing her photos, she always looked forward and was willing to learn. She purchased her last laptop when she was 89.  

Louise cherished her friendships, developing them at each stage of her life, with most of these lasting the remainder of her life. At the time of her passing, Louise still had friendships that she developed in high school as well as her work at Davidson Rubber and Textron. Her friendships encompassed all aspects of life, her church, her quilting groups, and her neighbors at the Old Woolen Milll and each was special to her.

In lieu of flowers, Louise has requested that donations be made in her memory to the First Parish Federated Church in South Berwick. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.
