Kieran (Bud) Collins, Jr. Obituary

Kieran F. “Bud” Collins, Jr. of Oakwoods Road, passed away peacefully at his home October 4, 2022.

Bud was born June 30, 1931 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Kieran and Marie (Panter) Collins, Sr. and graduated Dundack High School, class of 1948.  After high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy Seabees.  After his retirement, he continued his career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

On May 23, 1956 he married Gerda Koch.  They made North Berwick, ME their home in 1976.  Bud was a wonderful carpenter, finishing the inside of his home as well as building his garage, foyer and workshop where he enjoyed countless hours.  He had a great love for the sea and owned a boat which he enjoyed taking his friends and family fishing off the coast of Portsmouth.  He was a war history buff and read extensively about the war and other historical events.  Many will remember seeing him on his long walks along Route 4 from North Berwick to Sanford.

Bud was thankful to have such loving caregivers in Lois, Hillary, Robin and Emily, which allowed him to stay in his home. Bud was a very kind and giving man with a gentle soul.  He will be deeply missed.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Gerda in 2014, granddaughter Carrie Collins in 2019 and son Kieran C. Collins in 2021.  He is survived by 2 granddaughters, Caroline and Anna Rose Collins and great-granddaughter Kylee Collins.  Bud is also survived by his “adopted” family, Lois and Bob George; their children, Hillary Guptill, Robin George, Daniel (Jess) Rainville and “adopted” grandchildren, Sabastian, Harrison and Leighton Guptill and extended family in Maryland.  Bud had a special place in his heart for his caregiver, Emily Martin and her family as well.

A time of visitation will be held Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 3pm to 5pm with military honors and a brief service at 4:30pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME.  Bud and Gerda will be laid to rest together in Maryland at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick, ME.  Condolences may be expressed at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
