WELLS, ME
Joyce K. Stevens, 72, of Hilton’s Lane, passed away peacefully March 25, 2026, at Durgin Pines in Kittery, ME after a period of declining health.
She was born March 6, 1954, in Rockville Center, NY. Joyce was a graduate of Sanford High School. In 1976, she married the love of her life, Gene Stevens. For several years, Joyce was a LifeFlight nurse. She had a passion for taking care of people, helping to care for her mother-in-law, Lillian Stevens until her passing in 2017.
Joyce was proud to be a commercial truck driver. For many years, she joined her husband Gene as team drivers traveling all over the country hauling flatbed and even an occasional oversized load or two. They told many tales of their adventures and meeting new people. Joyce drove dump truck for Libby Scott Paving for many years, until her declining health.
Joyce loved her family deeply and was proud of her three sons. She enjoyed family reunions, baking and sewing. At Durgin Pines, she loved a good game of Tri-ominoes.
Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Gene Stevens, in 2019. Surviving are her 3 boys, Gene Douglas Stevens, Jr of Saco, Charles Stevens and her "future daughter in law", Abigail Richards of Wells, Alex Stevens and wife Amy of Sanford; brother Mark Dryden and wife Joan of Florida; sister Peggy Newton and husband Randy of Kansas; 8 grandchildren, Amber, Taylor, Haley, Tiffani, Hannah, Kya, Madelyn and Phoebe. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Nolan and her first great-granddaughter, Maeve, is due to arrive next month. She will also be missed by her two support dogs Sam and Lex.
A time of visitation will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, from 4pm to 6pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME. Interment at a later date at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale, ME.
