Joseph Acquaviva of Wells, ME passed away July 31, 2021 following a lengthy illness.
Joe was born in Butler, PA September 27, 1941, the son of the late Joseph Acquaviva and surviving mother, Mary Acquaviva.
Joe graduated from Butler High School and went on to earn an Associate Degree at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. His artistic ability provided him with the opportunity to work for the New York times as a layout artist before moving on to Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut. Joe moved to Maine to become co-owner of the Black Swan Tavern in Ogunquit. Currently, Joe remained active working at the Lafayette’s Oceanfront Resort at Wells Beach where his involvement was more a labor of love than a job.
Joe was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wells and a 30- year volunteer at the Ogunquit Playhouse, never missing a performance. He particularly cherished his time with family and friends.
Joe was preceded in death by his husband Richard Belanger with whom he spent the greater part of his life. Joseph is survived by his son Dean Acquaviva and wife Danielle of Southington, CT; mother Mary Acquaviva of Butler, PA; brother Richard Acquaviva and wife Joyce of Cranberry, PA. Also surviving is his granddaughter, Gabby of Southington, CT as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, August 24 at 11AM at St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, ME followed by refreshments. Memorial donations may be made to the Fresenius Kidney Care, 29 Barra Road, Biddeford, ME 04005.
