John "J.R." Hampton

John R. “J.R.” Hampton, 74, of Snow’s Court, passed away peacefully August 23, 2018 at the Hyder Family Hospice in Dover, NH after a period of failing health.

He was born in Lynn, MA June 22, 1944, son of Charles and Naomi (Pettipas) Hampton and graduated Saugus High School.  After graduating, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served 4 years.  He worked most of his life in the Tool & Dye shop for General Electric.

John enjoyed relaxing and smoking his pipe.  He was  very competitive and loved pool and cribbage;  known as a pool shark and the cribbage king.  He loved drag racing in Lynn, MA and driving his prized corvette and  had an extensive collection of beer steins and coins.  John was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Elks Lodge, all in Somersworth, NH.  Mostly John loved helping people and spending time with family and numerous friends.

He is survived by his son, Brian Fernald of Acton, ME; 4 daughters, Patricia Davis of Lewison, ME, Constance Maresco of Limington, ME, Joanne Maragni of Winthrop, MA and Becky Delorey of North Berwick, ME; sister, Julie Gray of Austin, TX; 9 grandchildren, Brooklynn, Dominic, John, Beth-Anne, Cody, Sara, Justin, Brandon and Christian ; and 2 nieces, Janice Gray and Laura Lucero.

A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 4-6PM  at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME.  Interment will be in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Springvale, ME.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME.  Condolences may be expressed at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
