James R. Macdonald, 87, of Bridgton, Maine died peacefully June 2, 2025, with his wife Judy by his side.
Jim was born in Brownfield, Maine on October 7, 1937, the son of Roger W. and Mary (Andrews) Macdonald. At a very young age he moved to Bridgton with his family who operated a business downtown. He attended local schools, graduating from Bridgton High School in 1955. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves after high school, married and had 2 sons during the 6 years in the Reserves.
Jim was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing, boating and snowmobiling. He was part owner of Macdonald Motors in Bridgton, Maine and North Conway, New Hampshire with his brothers, Robert and Danny. He always loved working with cars and had started working for the family business at the age of 16.
After retiring, Jimmy sought warmer weather, wintering at their home in North Port, FL and enjoying summers in Naples, ME.
Jim was affiliated with many organizations such as Loyal Order of Moose. Amvets, American Legion, KORA Shrine Temple, Eastern Star, Shrine Motor Corps, KORA Shrine Renegades, KORA Hillbillies; the most important accomplishment was being a Shrine Roadrunner taking children to the Tampa Shriners Hospital. Needless to say, Jimmy had many wonderful friends.
Jim married Judy (Knight) Rogers in 1989 and they spent many glorious years together. People used to ask if they’d just gotten married because they were so happy.
He was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sons, Michael and Ernest Macdonald, Darrin and Kevin Rogers, 4 grandsons, and granddaughter; two of which he was especially close to; Eli and Gwen Rogers.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 28 at the American Legion, Route 11, Naples, ME at 2pm.
Donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114.
