James S. Knowles, 81, of Center Road, passed away September 17, 2021 at his home.
He was born June 19, 1940 in Portland, ME, the son of Stuart and Louise (Lewis) Knowles. Jimm attended Sanford schools before proudly serving in the U. S. Air Force in England and Turkey as an AP.
Upon returning home, he played semi-pro football for Spaulding in Rochester, NH and for the Portland Seahawks. He served on the Lebanon Budget Committee. For many years he worked for Davidson Rubber, retiring as an assembly supervisor. In his free time, he kept busy with tractor work, clearing land, stump removal and developing house lots on Lizotte Road. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed fishing and gardening. Jimmy was a lover of all God’s creatures, there wasn’t an animal he didn’t love.
Jimmy is survived by a step brother, Ernest Lizotte and nephew Butch Lizotte of Lebanon; 2 cousins, Charles Lewis of Pembroke Pines, FL and Barbara McCalmon of South Portland; his special friend who became family, Carol (Andy Lemieux) Harris of Lebanon and her kids, William (Jenny) Harris and Robert Harris, and Carol’s grandkids, Eva and Jaylan whom he loved like his own.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 2 at 11am in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale with military honors. Johnson Funeral Home in North Berwick has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
