James Daly Obituary

James Joseph Daly, 84, of Shapleigh, ME, formerly of Gold Canyon, AZ, passed away February 26, 2020 in Maine Medical Center.

He was born March 8, 1935 in Elmont, NY, the son of James and Margaret (Cochran) Daly.  Jim graduated from Valley Steam High School then proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.

In 1958, he married his sweetheart, Agnes Thorpe.  After Jim was discharged, he began his career at Westinghouse Elevators, retiring as Construction Foreman in 1994.  Jim and Agnes then relocated to Gold Canyon to enjoy their retirement.  They often traveled back East to Maine to watch their son Jimmy coach and their grandsons wrestle and granddaughter play volleyball. They also loved visiting their son Sean and family, watching him play in his band and swimming with their family.  They spent time with their daughter and her family while in Arizona, enjoying many dinners together.

“Big Jim” was a proud Irishman who relished in his old-fashioned ways.  He stayed active and healthy his entire life.   Jim had recently moved to Maine with his son’s family where he loved spending quality time with them as well as the serenity of the lake.  Jim loved all animals, especially horses.

Jim was pre-deceased by his wife Agnes and will be forever be missed by his  2 sons, James Daly and his wife Tammy of Shapleigh; Sean Daly and his wife Colleen of Bay Shore, NY; daughter Kim Pease and her husband Stan of Apache Junction, AZ; “Happy” as he was so fondly referred to will be missed by his 10 grandchildren, Shane Daly and wife Emily, Kaylee (Daly) Martel and husband Aaron, Chad Daly, Breanna and Cara Daly, Daniel and Scott Mowbray, Charlie Mowbray and her husband Ben, Jennifer and Cody Lavoie; and 3 great-grandchildren, Xander, Jolie and Maddox.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 3pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, ME.  Family Flowers only.  Friends who wish may contribute to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O.
