Inger Kristine Mikkelsen

Inger of Auburn, Maine slipped away peacefully on May 19th, 2023 in North Berwick, Maine. She was 92 years old.

Inger was born to Karl August Mikkelsen and Metta Marie Mikkelsen originally from Denmark, on June 5th 1930 in Portland, Maine. She attended area schools where she was on the Honor Society, then continued on to cosmetology school. Her church affiliation was Lutheran of which she was a member. Inger had 7 children, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. She spoke several languages but was most fluent in Danish. She also learned to play the piano at an early age. In the early 70's she participated in the Womans Club Of York Maine to which she became president.

Inger loved lobstering as a child with her father. She also loved movies, embroidering , puzzles and playing "polly pockets" with her grandgirls. and of course always up to challenging anyone to a game of Scrabble!

Inger loved car rides, to the horse ranches of Ocala Florida, to going to Bailey Island for clams or Auburn Lake to take in the serene beauty and driving around to the many beautiful lighthouses which Maine has to offer. Inger was an avid reader her tastes in books was very  verstatile. She especially loved reading about the history of far away lands, which inspired her love of travel. Inger loved combing the beaches of Englewood ,Florida for sharks teeth from a bygone age and walking the beaches of Eleuthera, Bahamas, looking for that elusive glass ball, and especially strolling the beautiful hills and streets of her beloved Llanidloes in Wales.

Inger is predeceased in death by two sons, Robert Walker and David Walker and also by granddaughter Kelly- Lynne Koenig.

In leiu of flowers a memorial donation may be made in Ingers honor to -  Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, Lewiston, Maine.

Inger will be dearly missed by all her family and all who knew and loved her.

There will be a memorial gathering in her honor in Ogunquit, Maine at a later date.
