Ida May Guptill, 93, of Berwick passed away June 1, 2021 at Varney Crossing Nursing Center in North Berwick, just 2 days shy of her 94th birthday.
She was born June 3, 1927 in Boston, MA, daughter of Gardener and Louisa (Manning) Downs and a graduate of Ashland High School in Ashland, NH.
Ida was a mechanical inspector at Clarostat in Dover for many years and also worked several years at the Somersworth Day Care Center before retiring. She was very proud of earning her CNA license. Most of all her love of music shown through throughout her life. It surrounded her and her family always. She attended the Lebanon North Berwick Baptist church where she proudly led the choir. Music inspires, lda was inspiring.
Ida and her husband Donald of 61 years, loved camping in Rangeley for many years. She also loved watching her grandchildren play sports, always there to cheer them on. She lived her life with joy, positivity and faith. She taught people she came into contact with what the true meaning of respect and compassion really means. She has left behind many life lessons. When you think of the word Beautiful...Ida was every meaning of the word BEAUTIFUL.
Ida was pre-deceased by her granddaughter, Brittany Tibbetts in 2012. She will be sorely missed by her husband of 61 years, Donald Guptill; 2 daughters, Donna Tibbetts and husband Lennie, Brenda Souza and Mike Souza; son Robert Merrill and wife Mary, ;Granddaughter Ariane Train and husband Kevin; grandson Aaron Whittier and partner Stephanie Puleio, Lindsay Tibbetts and Elsa Merrill; 7 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Tanner Hodges, Tyler and Carrington Heimert-Train, Peyton Elmendorf, Addison and Emersyn Puleio.
There will be no public services at this time. Interment at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, ME. Friends who wish may contribute to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
