Harry F. Rumney

Harry Fitz Rumney, 87 passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 16th, 2025, in the loving arms of his devoted wife, Fawn. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. May his cherished memory bring solace to those who grieve his loss. Harry was deeply loved by all. 

Harry was born August 4th, 1937 in Belfast, ME. The son of Phyllis V. Sambrook and Russell E. Rumney Sr.

At the age of 4, Harry was placed in a children’s home in Dover, NH, after his father, Russell Sr., was deployed to Pearl Harbor. He remained there until the age of 11, when he was reunited with his father. During his time at the children’s home Harry decided to attend church, where he met the evangelist, Billy Graham. This pivotal meeting inspired Harry and led him on his lifelong journey of faith in God. Harry developed valuable carpentry skills from his father that would serve him throughout his life.

Harry proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1960. Following his service, he built a career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring after 30 dedicated years. A long-time member of Wells Branch Baptist Church, Harry devoted himself to deepening his faith and sharing the word of God with his family.

He found great joy in gardening for his loved ones, raising animals, singing with his family, and dancing with his beloved wife, Fawn. A man of remarkable skill and determination, Harry and Fawn built their own home and later renovated numerous properties as they lived in various places. His hard work and resourcefulness were a source of pride throughout his life.

In recent years, Harry and Fawn cherished their time overlooking the stunning views and sunsets along the Piscataqua River at Long Reach Landing. They formed lasting friendships within the marina community, earning the affectionate titles of "Dock Dad and Mom." Harry enjoyed boating, fishing, and the camaraderie of marina gatherings. A special bond formed between Harry and the marina’s owners, Doug and Jen, Doug often took Harry lobstering—an activity he loved. Harry embraced every moment of his life, creating precious memories with his family and friends.

Harry was a man of honor, known for his deep love and kindness toward everyone he met, and in return, he was cherished by many. His greatest devotion was to the love of his life, Fawn. Harry’s unwavering goal was to support her, love her unconditionally, and treasure every moment they shared. He accomplished this beautifully, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication that will forever be remembered.

Harry is survived by his loving wife Fawn Rumney 83 of Eliot, ME and their children: Bill Jackman and wife Joanne, Crystal Jackman, Steve Rumney and wife Linda, Dorene Jackman, Dawn Thivierge and her husband Mike who was like a son to Harry, Jerry Rumney and wife Michelle, 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Predeceased by his father Russell Sr and mother Phylis, his brothers Jerry, Russell Jr, and his sisters Sally and June and 2 great grandchildren. 

Services will be held Wednesday, January 22nd 2025 at 1:00PM for the viewing followed by 2:00PM funeral services at Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street,  North Berwick.
