Harry Stevenson Forbes

Harry traveled his lengthy cancer journey with unparalleled dignity and strength.   

He passed away on Sunday, March 31 at home where family and dear friends kept vigil for six days. We believe he heard the music, the prayers, the laughter, and maybe the tears. He was never left alone and knew how loved he was.

Harry was born on April 14, 1946, in Dover, NH. He attended Dover schools where he excelled in football at Dover High.  Following graduation, he attended Portsmouth Tech for machinery, joined the Army Reserves, and eventually went on active duty in Germany where he enjoyed traveling, skiing, and playing semi-pro football.  He returned to earn his associate business degree at UNH. Later in life, he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 35 years.

In 1976, Harry met his future wife at Buck’s Cafe in Dover, NH.  He and Jane bought a run-down farmhouse on five acres of land in North Berwick, Maine. Restoring it was a labor of love for many years; they created a beautiful homestead surrounded with gardens. It is where they also had three children, the loves of his life. The coming years brought three beloved grandchildren. His only voiced regret was not being around to see them all grow up.

He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he never missed an activity involving the grandkids. 

He was hard-working to a fault and handy at just about anything. He always had a project going on. Now he can finally rest.

Harry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane, and their three beautiful children: Chris Forbes  (fiance Jessica Torno), Emily Tucci (husband Brian Tucci), and Molly Forbes. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Brady and Brooke Tucci, Berkley Forbes,  his brother Butch, and sister-in-law Katy. Everyone in our family, and many dear friends, had the utmost respect and love for him. They were by his side every step of the way.

We are hosting a Celebration of Life on April 28, from 1 - 4 at The Governor’s Inn in Rochester, NH. Friends are invited to come honor Harry.
