Gary J. “Geo” Gerard, 58, of Tatnic Road, passed away peacefully at his home on January 1, 2021 after a courageous fight against cancer.
He was born January 6, 1962 in Rollinsford, NH, son of Theophile and Irene (Morin) Gerard. Geo was a 1980 graduate of Somersworth High School.
For the next several years he worked for the State of Maine, Department of Transportation then for the Town of South Berwick Highway Department, eventually going back to the State of Maine DOT in the bridge division. His “retirement” job was building trolleys for the Molly Corporation; finally retiring in 2018.
Gary loved everything to do with the outdoors. He loved cutting and splitting firewood, gardening, fishing and took great pride in keeping the landscape of their home beautiful. As a family they loved their vacations at the lake and just enjoying the simple life.
He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, hard-working, humble man; very modest and down to earth. His optimism in fighting this battle with cancer was astounding.
He will be sorely missed by his wife of 34 years, Norma Jean (Morse) Gerard and their son, Ben of Wells, ME; brother Leo Gerard and Debbie Giles of Milton, NH, and their family, Sister in laws Susan Place and Terry Benoit and their families, Father-in-law Arthur Place and his wife Renee, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his faithful companion, puppy Bruce.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, January 4 from 12pm to 2pm, immediately followed by a funeral at 2pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME. Friends who wish may contribute in his name to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
