Edwin (Ted) Paul Greenlaw

Edwin Paul Greenlaw, 84, of Berwick, known to many as “Ted” “Dad” & “Papa”, passed away on November 1, 2025 following a lengthy battle with Parkinsons Disease.  Ted was Born in Lubec, Maine to Leslie L. and Freda A. (Townsend) Greenlaw.  As one of six children born into a military family, Ted traveled extensively growing up, graduating from high school in Japan in 1960.

After High School, Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in Korea from 1960-1962.  Following his military service, he lived in several areas of the country before settling down in the Seacoast area.  Ted spent his working years at Davidson Rubber until his retirement in 1991.

In 1971, Ted met and married the love of his life, Carol Ann Wheeler, and together they raised five children in an old farmhouse they bought, and renovated themselves, in Lebanon, Maine. Ted was the guy who could build or fix absolutely anything from automobiles to appliances.  Ted was a fixture in the Lebanon community serving in different capacities; whether it be town government, teaching hunter safety or umpiring Little League games.

In the fall months, if he wasn’t busy getting the home ready for winter or helping Carol put away the last of the garden vegetables, Ted could often be found in the woods during deer season.  He loved fishing, hunting and camping; Maine traditions he enthusiastically passed on to his children and grandchildren.

As empty nesters, and following his retirement, Ted and Carol relocated to Springfield, Maine where they bought a tiny one room hunting cabin.  They lived completely off the grid, for nearly 20 years, until they were no longer able to do the physical work necessary.  There, Ted built on additions, wired the cabin and powered it with a pair of old forklift batteries he had acquired.  They had all the amenities…electricity, internet, television, indoor plumbing, laundry facilities etc.  Together, they turned this tiny little cabin into a home big enough and comfortable enough that they would bring as many as 12 of their grandchildren up to the house at one time during summer and winter breaks from school.  Each visit lasted a week or more and time was spent camping, fishing, or ice fishing, hunting, skiing and picking wild berries, depending on the time of year.  These were, undoubtedly, the best times of Ted and Carol’s lives, and they created life-long memories there with their grandchildren. 

Ted was pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers, Leslie Jr., Leroy, Jack and Michael.  He was also pre-deceased by his grandson Jared Greenlaw in 2017.

Ted is survived by Carol, his loving wife of 54 years, as well as their five children; sons Jeff Greenlaw (June) of South Carolina, Patrick Greenlaw (Jennifer) of Lebanon, Maine; Timothy Greenlaw of Bangor, Maine, Mark Greenlaw (Wendy) of Berwick, Maine and a daughter Marlo Battig (John) of Oklahoma.  Ted leaves behind a sister, Patricia Kennedy of Dover, NH and his sister-in-law Joanna of Stratham, NH.  Also left to cherish his memory are 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pinnacle Nursing Facility in North Berwick, Maine for their dedication to ensuring his comfort and care during his final months.
