Edgar M. Brooks, Jr.
September 22, 1938 – January 19, 2026
Edgar M. Brooks, Jr., 87, of School Street, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 19, 2026.
Born on September 22, 1938, in Stratham, New Hampshire, Edgar was the son of Edgar and Doris (Brown) Brooks. He spent much of his life living and working in the Kittery area, where he was known for his strong work ethic and straightforward nature.
Edgar was married to his beloved wife, Caroline, for 66 years. Together they shared many simple joys, including going swimming, attending the races, and spending time together.
He is survived by his children, Edgar, Robert, Kathy, Karen, William, and Steven, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A hardworking man throughout his life, Edgar spent many years as a cross-country truck driver. He later worked as a supervisor in Portsmouth before starting his own business hauling dirt with dump trucks. After retiring from cross-country trucking, he continued hauling gravel and later worked for the Town of Berwick in snow removal, remaining active well into his later years.
Edgar especially treasured time spent with his sons hunting and working on cars. He had a lifelong love of stock cars and NASCAR and also enjoyed fishing, cooking, and baking. Many of his days were happily spent outdoors on his tractor or working at the sawmill behind his home.
Affectionately known as a “grumpy old man,” Edgar had a tough exterior but showed his love through hard work, loyalty, and steady presence. His legacy lives on in the memories, stories, and skills shared across generations.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, January 23rd from 6pm to 8pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME.
Graveside services will be held in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot, ME.
