Dwight Dare Williams

Dwight Dare Williams, 84 of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away on May 4, 2026 in Ft. Pierce, FL. 

Dwight was born in Zanesville, OH to Georgia Uldene (Temple) and William Williams on August 26, 1941. He graduated from Zanesville High School in 1959, joining the United States Navy in 1958, first as a reservist while still in high school, then active duty. 

While on active duty, he would meet then marry his late wife Anna Marie Gioia in Boston, MA. They were married on November 4, 1961 in Somerville, MA and happily married until her death on November 24, 2024. 

Dwight would rejoin military service through his re-enlistment into the United States Coast Guard reserves in 1974. He would earn a total of eight stripes for his nation’s flag through honorable and faithful service spanning 33 years until retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in August 2001. 

His individual awards included the following: Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal with one silver and three bronze devices, National Defense Service Medal with bronze device, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with bronze hourglass, Expert Rifle and Expert Pistol Medals. His unit awards were; Department of Transportation Outstanding Unit Award, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, and Coast Guard Bicentennial Unit Commendation. 

While on reserve duty, he worked for 33 years at both Boston Naval Shipyard and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a nuclear inspector, ensuring that our Nation’s submarines were operating safely, helping defend and protect our Nation’s freedoms. 

Dwight lived in Ohio from his birth until 1962, then Massachusetts from 1961 to 1976, moving to and living in Maine from 1976 to 2018 and finally settling in Florida in 2018.

Dwight is preceded in death by his parents Georgia (2005) and William (1977), his sister Verlene (2017), and his brother Jerry (2026). 

Dwight is survived by his children Denise Williams of York, ME; Andrea (Williams) Berry and her husband Richard of Acton, ME; and Jeffrey Williams and his wife Traciann of Port St Lucie, FL; his grandchildren Kaitlyn Williams, Kyle Berry, Alexis (Williams) Tomczyk, Zachary Berry, and Logan Williams; and his great-Grandchildren Azra, Paxtyn, and Kaizen. Dwight is also survived by his sister Darlene Hartley. 

Private services will be held for immediate friends and family at a future time.
