Donna Maria (Falconeiri) Newton, 81, passed away December 9, 2023, after a period of failing health.
She was born June 28, 1942, in Middleboro, MA, the daughter of Phillip and Margaret (Morrone) Falconeiri. Donna was proud to be from the West side of Middleboro, the oldest of her brothers and cousins and their tight-knit Italian family. She graduated from Middleboro High School where she met Stephen Newton, they later married in 1961 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
Donna and Stephen, moved to Lebanon, ME in 1974 where they raised their 5 children. Their first house was the large, old red schoolhouse in the West Lebanon Village then she later designed her own log cabin dream home. It was in this log cabin that she cared for her 6 grandchildren on the weekends, Justine Carmella, Julianna Marie, Caleb Stephen, Matthew Jacob, Gabriella Maria and Anthony Michael. They had so much fun including many RV trips all over the country.
Donna was proud of her Italian heritage. At 10 years of age, Donna, sailed the SS Andrea Doria to Italy with her grandmother for 10 months and returned numerous times throughout her life, each visit bringing a different child or grandchild to share her love of Italy. She had fond memories of traveling to Italy with her father and the time her brother Dom surprised her for lunch in Positano.
Donna was an amazing Italian cook and baker having learned from her mother and hosting weekly Sunday family dinners. Donna was a devote follower of Tasha Tudor with her own big gardens which she preserved all her own food and flowers; raised pigs, horses, chickens and a goat; she braided wool rugs, made her own candles, sewed, and made her own dolls. She passed many of these skills onto her family and encouraged her grandchildren to enter their own crafts into the Acton Fair.
Above all, Donna was a beautiful woman, wonderful wife and the best mom anyone could ask for. She competed in various pageants and modeling events, earning the title “Miss Middleboro”. She was known to many as Mom or Mamma and she made each of us feel like we were the most important person in her world. A piece of all of our hearts went with her.
Donna was predeceased by her brothers, Vincent and Dominic and her beloved son, Steven Vincent Newton who died in a motorcycle accident in 1984. Surviving are her husband, Stephen Newton; son Phillip Newton and Jennifer Bass of Lebanon; 3 daughters, Gina Winslow and Donald of East Parsonsfield, Stephanie Fischer and Robert of Wells, and also her best friend, Nicole Newton of Lebanon; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, Vincent Bodhi, Laney Bretton, Julian Joseph, and Enzo Ellis. Also, her many, lifelong friends.
A time of visitation will be held Friday, December 15, from 1pm to 3pm with a Remembrance Service at 2pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME 03906. Friends who wish may contribute to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. www.stjude.org
