Daniel John Marquis, 72 of Wells, Maine, passed away peacefully on February 29th at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine.  He was surrounded by his 2 sons and loving wife of 49 years.

Dan was born the oldest son of 11 siblings.  He is survived by his wife, 2 sons, 2 grandsons and a granddaughter as well as all 4 of his brothers and 4 of his sisters.  After high school Daniel proudly served in the U.S. Army within the 25th Infantry as an NCO (E-5) Tank Commander in Viet Nam from 1967-1968.  He conducted and completed many combat missions in and around Cu Chi as well as within the Saigon Theater during the Tet Offensive of ’68.  He earned several medals including the Army Commendation Medal for Merit, both of the Viet Nam Service & Campaign Medals, Expert Rifle, as well as the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Marquis was a distinguished employee of Pratt & Whitney for over 35 years.  As an athlete, Dan participated in his local CYU Basketball League and went on to be the Captain of 3 Championship UTC Softball Teams during the early 1980’s.  As a lover of golf, Dan could be often found competing with his colleagues of the Pratt & Whitney Golf League, at the Links at Outlook Course in South Berwick, Maine.  Dan was also a lifelong outdoorsman who enjoyed both fishing and hunting with his family and friends.  Throughout a 41-year window, Dan was a dedicated fan to the Wells High School Wrestling, Football and Basketball teams.  Like his father before him, Dan served his local Catholic Church as a 4th Degree Knight within the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years. In the last decade he served countless hours volunteering as an active member of the Viet Nam Veterans of America, Chapter 1044 Maine.

A Catholic Memorial Service will be held for Dan at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, Maine on Friday, March 20th at 9am.  Immediately after the service, a military burial will commence at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale at 11am.  A reception will follow for family and friends at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Hall from noon to 2pm
