Clarine Spencer Obituary

Clarine Lillian (Pineo) Spencer, 84, of Berwick passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home April 26, 2026, after 3 years of living with cancer.

She was born in Dover, NH, on April 27, 1942, the daughter of Clarence and Hazel (Hoyt) Pineo. Clarine grew up in Dover, meeting her future husband, Barry Spencer, while she was in high school.  In 1960, they married and settled in Berwick where they raised their 4 children.  Clarine and Barry eventually settled in on Cranberry Meadow Road, where they remained for 51 years.

Clarine was her happiest in the woods, whether at one of their several camps they owned, snowmobiling or riding ATVs on the trails throughout Maine, fishing, hunting for moose, deer or even a nuisance squirrel, she loved it all.  She shared that love with her husband, children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed helping on her daughter Wanda’s farm and was still throwing hay bales well into her 70’s. She loved her yellow roses and the beauty in the red cardinals.  Clarine had a wonderful collection of “wades” collected in Red Rose Tea; even trading them with people in Canada to increase her collections.

One memorable thing for the children and families alike in Berwick would be her dressing as a witch every Halloween to hand out candy. Even visiting the children’s wards in local hospitals in her costume.  She remained young at heart throughout her well-lived life.

Clarine was pre-deceased by her brother, Clarence Pineo and sister, Pauline Rendell; 2 grandsons, Michael Jr. and Joshua Spencer; and son-in-law, Paul Donato.  She will be forever loved by her husband of 66 years, Barry Spencer of Berwick; 2 sons, Barry Spencer, Jr.  and wife Diane of Sanford, Michael Spencer, Sr. of Berwick and wife Tina of Dover-Foxcroft, ME; 2 daughters, Wanda Garrett of Alfred, Dawna Donato of Lebanon; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held Friday, May 8 from 2pm to 4pm immediately followed by a Time of Remembrance at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick.

Family and friends are asked to wear their fancy hats in Clarine’s honor.  In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a tree in your own yard to replenish the trees which she loved for the next generations.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick.  Condolences, memories and pictures may be shared at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
