Charles (Skip) A. Kezar

Charles “Skip” A. Kezar, 92, of North Berwick, Maine went home to be with the Lord on August 28th  .   Skip was born on June 3, 1932 to Charles and Florence Kezar and was a life-long resident of North Berwick. 

Skip met his sweetheart for life, Carol L. Wyman Kezar, in high school and married at the age of 19. They enjoyed the blessing of 71 years of marriage.  Skip and Carol were inseparable and enjoyed taking long rides in the car and family and friend trips to Naples, ME; Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; Vermont; Florida; Branson, MO; or anywhere their family and friends were.    

God, family, hard work, storytelling and tractors were at the center of Skip’s life.  Over the years, Skip worked at a myriad of jobs at General Electric, Kitter Press, Brackett and Shaw, and Pratt and Whitney.  At one point he was also a volunteer firefighter and a bus driver for MSAD 60.  His one passionate hobby was tractors. Buying, fixing, using, showing, and selling was a way of life in the Kezar household. So was storytelling.  Skip was a master storyteller and entertained friends and family with many stories from the “good old days”. He even helped write and illustrate a book based on his life.  

Skip came to accept Jesus as his Savior on Labor Day weekend, 1960, and he would tell you it was never the same after that. Skip attended three churches in North Berwick in his lifetime and served faithfully in each. He taught Sunday School and even served on a mission trip to Caribou, Maine.  Skip loved to sing and praise God and in his younger days, play the drum, especially at Grange dances.   Skip’s goal was to live like a Christian and in so doing point others to the One who can forgive and ensure eternal life in heaven.  

The Lord blessed Skip and Carol with 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren, all of whom were welcomed, loved, and doted over by them as often as possible.  

“Uncle Skip” was loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews, and Skip, with joy bells ringing, will be missed by many friends around town and especially from church.    

Charles is predeceased by his wife, Carol, and his sister, Merry Nielsen.  He is survived by their 3 children:  sons James (Jim) and wife Deborah, Timothy (Tim) and wife Wanda, of North Berwick and daughter Elaine (Lanie) Lajoie and husband Dana of Berwick, 6 Grandchildren: Andrew, Candace, Jamie, Jennifer, Daniel and Anna, and 8 Great Grandchildren: Alexander, Cody, Chase, Olivia, Savannah, Mackenzie, Brayden, and Camden.    

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 4, at 10:00 am at Johnson’s Funeral Home, North Berwick.  A private committal service will follow at Hillside Cemetery.  Donations to the American Heart Association can be made in lieu of flowers.   Condolences may be expressed at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
