Catherine “Cathy” Durocher, 74 of Puffin Way, passed away February 18, 2024 peacefully in Garden City, South Carolina with her husband and sister by her side.
She was born in Sanford, August 11, 1949, the daughter of Gerald and Florida (Letourneau) Fougere. Cathy was a 1967 graduate of Sanford High School. For 18 years, she could be found behind the meat counter at Shaw’s in Sanford where she enjoyed the customers, especially the regulars. She and husband Carl took numerous dancing lessons throughout the years. Her love of dancing was immeasurable. She loved line dancing, swing dancing and ballroom dancing. There wasn’t a dance she didn’t try, everywhere they went. Cathy also loved her gardens and flowers. She enjoyed combing the beaches in South Carolina during the winter months for just the right shells, stones and sea glass. With her creativity, she made wonderful columns of these shells that she brought home to use in her gardens in Maine, bringing a piece of South Carolina with her. Cathy was a sweet and caring woman who always had a smile for everyone. She will surely be missed by all those lives she touched.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, her son Ronald Durocher, brother Emile Fougere. Surviving is her husband of 52 years, Carl R. Durocher of Alfred, ME; son Craig Durocher of Limington, daughter Jennifer Payette and husband Ken of Dover, NH, daughter-in-law Christine Durocher of North Berwick; 4 grandchildren, Carl, Danielle, Matt and Alex; brothers Michael Fougere and wife Stephanie of East Conway, NH and Gerald Fougere and wife Merry Armstrong of Spokane, WA; sisters Joyce Mrugala of Sanford; Nancy Hammond and her husband Larry of Lyman and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 30 at 1pm at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Road, Springvale, ME 04083 with a time of fellowship to follow at the Keywood Manor Community Hall.
