Carl Elliott Jackson

Carl E. Jackson, 1936–2026

Carl E. Jackson of Kittery, Maine, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to family, entrepreneurship, and community. Born in the United Kingdom in 1936, Carl carried with him a strong work ethic and adventurous spirit that would define the course of his life.

In 1957, Carl immigrated to Canada, where he began building a career that spanned many decades. An alumnus of McMaster University he first worked for Campbell Soup Company, eventually managing plants throughout Canada and the US and later rose to become Vice President of Cavendish Farms, until the mid-1980s.

In 1987, Carl embraced a new chapter, moving to New Hampshire, where he purchased with his business partner BioSan Laboratories, a small vitamin company that grew to what is now known as FoodState and MegaFood today. Carl took great pride not only in growing a successful business but also in providing meaningful employment opportunities for members of the local Derry and surrounding communities. His entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to quality and community left a lasting mark.

Later in life, Carl and his beloved wife, Cathy Smilovitz Jackson, made their permanent home in Kittery, Maine, where they spent many cherished years together.

Carl was predeceased by his daughter, Sarah, and his first wife Jennifer. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy; his brother, Nigel Jackson of Toronto Canada; his son, Thomas Jackson and wife Karen of Londonderry, NH; his stepson, Josh Smilovitz and wife Esther of New York, NY; and his stepdaughter, Jenny Smilovitz and her husband Stephen of Belmont, MA.

He was a proud grandfather to AbbyGail, Alexander, Audrey, and Jacob, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride.

Carl will be remembered as a man of vision, modesty, resilience, and generosity - a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His life was one of courage, hard work and opportunity, crossing the ocean and borders in pursuit of a better future, and leaving a meaningful impact wherever he settled. His legacy lives on in his family, his community, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey. This summer the family will have a private celebration of Carl’s life.
