Brian A. Rhodes, 43, of Sanford passed away peacefully at Southern Maine Medical Center June 30, 2024 after a long battle with Muscular Dystrophy.
Brian was born March 29, 1981 in Rochester, NH, the son of Glenn Rhodes and Robin Buck. After graduating from Noble High School, Brian worked for Adams Fire Protection with his uncle, Dwayne Buck; Prime Tanning and delivered newspapers for the Portland Press Herald.
Brian loved all New England sports including the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing; smelting and striper fishing and many moose hunts which gave him aspirations of becoming a Game Warden but due to the Muscular Dystrophy, his dreams did not come to fruition.
As the muscular dystrophy progressed, Brian was confined to a wheelchair in his mid 30’s. Brian and his father, who also had MD, shared a room at Summer Commons for a few years until his father’s death. Brian was blessed to be the Ambassador for “Outdoors Again” who make many dreams come true for those confined to a wheelchair. Brian was able to fish again, attend Sea Dogs and Maine Claws games, go on boat trips on the Casco Bay Cruise lines and numerous trips where he made many friends.
Brian was a happy and outgoing guy who looked adversity in the eye and tried to overcome. He loved spending time with his family and friends any chance he could.
He was predeceased by his mother, Robin (Buck) Ladisheff in 2017 and his father, Glenn Rhodes in 2021; his aunt Kim (Rhodes) Gromyko, uncles Kevin and Randy Buck and Donald Turbide and Aunt Judy Fifield and husband Charles Fifield Jr.. He will be sorely missed by his brothers, Joshua Rhodes and spouse, Crystal Manning of Rochester, NH, Jeffrey Rhodes and spouse Amy Pecoraro of Springvale, ME; step-father, Christopher Ladisheff of Rochester, NH; uncle Tim Rhodes and spouse Pam Rhodes of Wells; aunt Jolene Buck and husband Dwayne Buck of North Berwick, uncle Kim Buck and aunt Barbara Dyke; 2 nephews, Zachary and Travis Rhodes as well as numerous cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Summer Commons for giving Brian the best possible life there at such a young age. Donations in Brian’s memory may be made to “Outdoors Again” 661 Main Street, Waterboro, ME 04087.
A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, July 17 from 5pm to 7pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME. Condolences and memories may be expressed at JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
