Bret Brierley Obituary

Bret Neece Brierley, 73, of Shapleigh, ME, formerly of Marlborough, CT, beloved husband of Donna (Nowsch) Brierley of 47 years, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Born on August 27, 1950, the son of the late Vernon Howard Brierley Jr. and the late Nancy (Neece) Brierley, he graduated from Berlin High School and attended The University of Hartford.

Bret had an adventurous life. In his younger years you could find him skiing (water & snow), out sailing, clamming, and racing cars. He was not only knowledgeable, but full of wisdom, humbleness, and selflessness. Among his work in a variety of fields, he was a talented jeweler and blacksmith, and loved to personally create handmade gifts for his family. Above all his entrepreneurial trades, his greatest achievement was having founded Brierley Master Builders where he was blessed in the time spent training his two sons in the art of antique home restoration and custom carpentry.

Bret would most want to be remembered for his Love of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As a resident of Connecticut, he attended Colchester Bible Baptist Church where he served in the Pines Rehab ministry. After moving to Maine, he became a member of Shapleigh Baptist Church and served on various committees.

Anyone who met him even for a short time, found him to be a man they would not soon easily forget. He cherished his time with his family, especially the many summers on Square Pond. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, but we rejoice in knowing that we will see him again.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses Justus and Nicole Brierley of Maine, Benjamin and Jennifer Brierley of Connecticut; Kelly Valentine of Connecticut, and Karen and her spouse Demetrios Stratis of South Carolina; 7 grandchildren, Christian, Nicholas, Joseph, Julia, Matthew, Wyatt, and Aubree; as well as his siblings and their spouses, Vernon Brierley III, Nancy and Robert Bradley, and William and Alison Brierley, all of Connecticut, and a host of extended family members and friends. Bret was predeceased by his sister-in-law Elizabeth Brierley.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2024, at New Covenant Baptist Church, 285 Maple St., North Berwick, ME. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be planned in Connecticut this summer. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of his grandson Nicholas Brierley, www.stjude.org/donate or to the Bret Brierley Memorial Fund mailed to Shapleigh Baptist Church at 600 Shapleigh Corner Rd, Shapleigh, ME 04076.
