Betty Hamlyn Obituary

Betty Arlene (Noble) Hamlyn, 92

Betty Hamlyn of Wells peacefully passed away on March 6, 2024. She was born 4/3/1931 in Kennebunk, ME to Arthur and Agnes (Hutchins) Noble. She grew up in Kennebunk and attended Kennebunk schools. She met her husband to be Harold James Hamlyn I when she was 13 years old. Their first date was to Old Orchard Beach. They were married on March 25th 1950 and lived in Old Orchard Beach and Saco until they moved to Wells in 1960 where they raised their four children, Lynne, Harold II (Buddy), Barbara, and Peter. She enjoyed family camping trips to Chain of Ponds, Cathedral Pines and Armstrong Cabins on Long Lake. The family later would enjoy spending summers at their camp on El Pond in Sanford. In 1975 they sold the camp and had an in-ground pool put in at their home in Wells where they hosted many family reunions, birthday parties and other gatherings for friends and family. She had a love for nature, feeding the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, sometimes right out of her hand. She loved snakes, lizards, toads, frogs, turtles and pretty much everything that lived in the wild except for spiders. She enjoyed collecting monarch caterpillars and keeping them in jars until the turned into butterflies. She was a talented seamstress and made dresses, uniforms and other clothes for the family. She had a profound love of music and dancing, learning to play harmonica and organ on her own. She will be sadly missed by everyone that knew her for her wonderful personality, spunky attitude, snappy comebacks and her beautiful steel blue eyes.

She was a founding member of the Trailblazers Snowmobile club in 1968 and enjoyed snowmobiling all over the State of Maine and Canada. She was a member of the Salmon Falls River Beagle club in Lebanon and raised AKC beagles and earned many trophies and ribbons running her dogs in trials. She was a member of the Nubble Lighthouse Keepers square dancing club attending events all over Maine and New Hampshire. She also enjoyed lunch on occasion with the Red Hats.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold I and her son Harold II, Sisters Virginia Phillips, Dot Cole, Bernice “Bunny” Nutter and June Brown. Brothers Dwight “Herb” Noble and Arthur Noble. She is survived by her daughters Lynne Schott and husband Robert of Norway, Barbara Provencher of Sanford, son Peter Hamlyn and his wife Kim of Wells. Grandchildren Will, Rob, Buddy, Kimmie, Ben, Alan and Samantha. Great Grandchildren Teaghan, Jacob, Abby, Amelia, Harold III, Skyler and Zoe.
