Althea M (Mathews) Cole

Althea M. Cole, 87 of South Berwick passed away January 7, 2022 with her children by her side.

 She was born March 23, 1934, the youngest child of Chester and Lila Mathews and a 1953 graduate of North Berwick High School.

 In 1954, Althea married Carl (Gene) Cole, Jr. They lived in North Berwick where they raised four children.  During their 59 years together, they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bird watching, playing cards and camping in their motorhome.  Althea also enjoyed square dancing, crafting and was an avid quilter.

 She was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Lila Mathews; her loving husband Gene Cole; two brothers, Bernard and Carlton Mathews; sister Coralie Ross and nephew Glenn Jepson.

 Surviving is her sister Edith Hall of Lebanon, three daughters, Kathleen Lovejoy and husband Larry of North Berwick, Darlene Welch and husband Mark of Arundel and Jolene Colwell and husband Kevin of Lebanon; son Brian Cole and wife Kristen of North Berwick, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 At Althea’s request, there will be no services.  Spring burial will be planned at Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick, ME.
