William (Bill) Thyng Obituary

William (Bill) Thyng passed away unexpectedly on November 25, 2019 from a tragic accident. Bill was born to Wallace and Priscilla (Fiel) Thyng on January 9, 1948 in Sanford, ME. He graduated from Noble High School in 1966. He then attended McIntosh College where he met his wife of 50 years, Sandy (Salinger) Thyng. Following graduation, he went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service for almost 20 years. He left this job to work with his son-in-law at Design Consultants and Interex. Later in life, he worked both for the Sanford Soccer Association and the City of Sanford’s Parks and Recreation Department. In every setting, his colleagues became lifelong friends.

Bill was a devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather to say the least. He was the quintessential family man. There is no person he wouldn’t talk to and not many people in the community that he didn’t know. He was known for his outgoing personality and dependable work ethic. To know Bill was to love Bill. He enjoyed traveling in recent years with his wife and friends to Vancouver, the Caribbean, and Alaska. However, there was no place in the world he enjoyed more than his family camp in Jackman, ME. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who got so much joy just being outdoors. He was the biggest fan to not only his grandchildren at sporting events, but to all of their teammates throughout the years. Bill was an active and integral part of his family’s lives and his presence will be terribly missed.

Bill is survived by his mother, Priscilla Thyng Petersen of North Berwick; his sister, Linda Thyng Alt of North Berwick; his wife of 50 years, Sandy of Sanford; his son, Mark and his wife Sandy Starr of Essex Junction, VT, his daughter, Michelle and her husband Chris Littlefield of Sanford. “Grampa” will be sorely missed by his two grandchildren, Taylor and her husband Josh Langevin, and Sydney.

A celebration of life will be held on December 15, 2019  from 1pm to 4pm  at the North Berwick Community Center at 264 Lebanon Rd, North Berwick, ME. There will be a private graveside burial for family in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to the American Heart Association in Bill’s name.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, North Berwick, ME.  Condolences may be expressed at www.johnsonfuneralhomeme.com
