Thomas J. Whateley

Thomas J. Whateley, 64  resident of North Berwick, Maine for nearly a decade died unexpectedly at his home on April 16, 2019 after a short illness.

He was born in Stoneham, MA April 22, 1954, the son of Frederick and Dorothy (Thomas) Whateley.

Tom graduated from Stoneham High School, Class of 1972.  Tom attended  Graham Jr. College in Boston where he majored in communications.     At the time of his passing, Tom lived in Maine where he enjoyed the peace and solitude of the “country”, keeping busy delivering newspapers and creating scripts for his one man show “Broadway and All That Jazz”.  Tom was a well-known actor in the community theatre circle and has performed extensively across New England.  In addition, Tom performed professionally at Busch Gardens, VA; Shawnee Playhouse, PA, Cooperstown New York; and Cincinnati Ohio Playhouse.  Tom recently had started up his own production company, “Black Ray Productions” and was in rehearsal for “The Man of La Mancha” at Belleville Congregational Church in Newburyport.  Tom loved all things theatrical.  He also loved books; the Boston Red Sox; trips to North Haven; discussing politics and history with friends and family; and his beloved dachshund, “Sammy the Wunderdog.”

Tom is survived by his 2 sisters, Patricia Burke and her son Matthew of Ipswich, MA and Janice LaRochelle of Danvers and her daughter Jessica Frost; and his step daughter, Abigail Hagood of Los Angeles, CA.  He  will be lovingly missed and always remembered by his large theatre family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 11am at the Belleville Congregational Church, 300 High Street,  Newburyport, MA  01950.     Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, ME where condolences may be expressed at www.JohnsonFuneralHomeME.com
