Richard Hooke passed away March 14, 2019 at his home in North Berwick with his family by his side.
Richard or better known as “Dickie” was born April 13, 1936 in Dover, New Hampshire the son of Francis E. and Dorothy Chadbourne Hooke. His mother passed away in May 1936 and he went to live with Kenneth and Leona Birch until the age of 2 when he went to live with his Great Aunts, Kate Muchmore and Pearl Lincoln. At the age of 5 he moved to Wells with his father and stepmother to live with her father for a year. Upon his return he lived with Aunt Kate and Pearl until he was a teen. Dick was always a hard worker and possessed great strength all throughout his life having started to work as a young teen on a farm and construction until he was 57 and had to retire because of his health. He was also a dare devil who loved to ride his Harley and was known for doing dangerous stunts on it. Dick was drafted into the Army in 1959 but was discharged that same year from an injury. In 1961 he married Janet Robie of Kennebunk and they spent 57 years together. She did not want to move to North Berwick but grew to love the town. They lived on Nowell Street for a number of years before moving to the Ford Quint Road where they resided for 51 years.
He was a wonderful father to his son Rick and his stepson Jim. He had a great love for children and animals. Other than his love for his family was his love for guns. He had a passion for shooting at the Rod and Gun Club meets where he was a member. In 1999 he and his wife traveled extensively in the United States, and took trips to Newfoundland on their touring bike, something he had always wanted to do. In the last few years he was content to stay at home and feed the neighbors horses.
He was pre deceased by his father Francis Hooke, his mother Dorothy Chadbourne Hooke, his grandmother Eva Chadbourne, an infant daughter Merri Beth Hooke, his brother Tom and his nephew Steven and a special friend Everett Chadbourne.
